Air Tightness Testing Site Readiness Questionnaire

What is involved?

Uncontrolled ventilation in dwellings through leakage paths around doors and window frames accounts for a significant proportion of heat loss, particularly as the insulation value of walls and glazing has improved.

In order to control this energy loss, the Building Regulations will regulate the overall leakage of the building structure by testing, using a pressurising /depressurising fan method.

Site plans including scaled floor plan(s) and section plan(s) are needed at least 48hrs in advance to complete the building envelope area calculations which are then needed on site to enter into the computer to give you your result. SAP calculations are also required.

The figure that is needed from the SAP calculations is the Design Air Permeability Figure. This figure is what you need to achieve less than to pass the test. If the result is above this value the test will fail and remedial action is then necessary.

Required Site Conditions

Your staff should be informed of the air tightness test program and be prepared to leave punctually as required.

Activity within control of the site manager should be stopped within the units to be tested during the test visit.

The tests are likely to last several hours, depending on the number of tests involved. Acoustic South East staff will advise.
